Our Values

Five values. One standard.
The way we show up — every job, every day.

Our Vision

To set a new benchmark for infrastructure delivery in Australia — through our values, our skills, and our systems.

Setting a new benchmark isn’t just about delivering more – it’s about delivering differently. It means our people arriving at every job prepared, every process working the way it should, and every client interaction building the kind of trust that earns the next opportunity.

Brefni’s strategy puts this into practice: investing in our systems so the administrative load gets out of the way of good work, developing the skills and leadership capability that complex infrastructure demands, and holding ourselves to a standard of compliance and quality that doesn’t move. The values on this page aren’t the starting point – they’re the standard we’re working to make second nature.

Our Purpose

At Brefni, the projects we deliver support the systems and communities people rely on every day. Our purpose reflects the responsibility that comes with delivering critical infrastructure and the pride our people take in doing the job well.

We focus on three outcomes:

  • Strengthening communities through infrastructure that supports the way society functions.
  • Supporting our people by creating opportunity, stability, and pride in the work they deliver.
  • Delivering for our customers as a trusted partner who performs safely, reliably, and responsibly.

Just as important as what we build is how we build it — by keeping our people safe, delivering quality outcomes for our customers, and executing work on time and on budget.

Our Values

Brefni’s values guide how we work across every project, team, and partnership
— bringing our purpose to life.

Safety

We plan and execute every task, so everyone goes home safe every day, without exception. We actively identify risk, adapt when conditions change, and empower everyone to stop work if they feel something is unsafe.

  • Stop work when something feels unsafe and raise it immediately
  • Speak up about hazards, near misses, uncertainty or changing conditions
  • Check that controls are still effective as work progresses
  • Actively look out for colleagues’ wellbeing
  • Treat all voices with equal respect so everyone feels confident to speak up

We do what we say we will do, speak up early when something isn’t right, and act transparently with each other, our partners and clients.

  • Do what they say they will do, or communicate early if they can’t
  • Raise issues as soon as they see them, not when it’s too late
  • Share accurate information, even when it’s uncomfortable
  • Own mistakes promptly and work openly to fix them
  • Treat colleagues, partners and clients with honesty and respect

We show up prepared, follow through on our commitments, and apply consistent standards to everything we do.

  • Come prepared to meetings, tasks, and decisions
  • Follow procedures that enable compliant and reliable outcomes
  • Complete work properly the first time, without cutting corners
  • Manage time and priorities, and respect the time of others
  • Hold themselves and each other accountable

We respond quickly to change by making informed decisions, adapting our approach, and learning fast — while maintaining clear standards and accountability.

  • Adjust approach when conditions, priorities or information change
  • Make decisions when needed, or refer the issue up the line
  • Share lessons learned so others can adapt faster
  • Try better ways of working within safety and quality boundaries
  • Stay focused on outcomes, not just the original plan

We succeed as one team by working openly across Brefni, our partners and clients – sharing information, aligning decisions and solving problems together.

  • Work openly with others across teams, disciplines and companies
  • Share information that helps the wider group succeed
  • Ask for input early, not after decisions are locked in
  • Prioritise shared outcomes over individual or siloed wins
  • Ensure everyone has the opportunity to contribute and be heard
