We build infrastructure that matters — strengthening society in ways our people and our customers can be proud of.
For more than three decades, Brefni has delivered civil infrastructure across the public and private sectors of New South Wales. Founded in 1995, we have contributed to over 850 projects, including some of Sydney’s most iconic infrastructure – from Central Station to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Brefni is entering a new chapter. Under new leadership and guided by our strategy, we are evolving from a founder-led contractor into a high-performing, scalable business – built to set a new benchmark for infrastructure delivery in Australia, through our values, our skills, and our systems.
Our approach is grounded in The Brefni Way. Every infrastructure project eventually gets finished. The Brefni Way is about how.
We bring the discipline of our values, the depth of our skills, and the strength of our systems to every project. Our values are lived through specific behaviours, not left to interpretation. Our skills are built through self-delivery and deliberate sector investment. Our systems — documented, technology-enabled, and continuously improved — are what make our performance repeatable.
The result: complex work feels manageable, commitments hold, and shared challenges become the foundation of relationships that last beyond the project. When challenges arise, we stay solution-focused and transparent, fixed on the outcome we promised. It is how we’ve engineered our business.
Five values define how we operate every day: Safety, Integrity, Discipline, Agility, and Collaboration. They are not aspirational slogans. They are the daily operating code of our business – embedded into how we hire, how we lead, how we deliver, and how we hold each other accountable. Safety, in particular, is the non-negotiable baseline from which everything else flows.
Brefni delivers complex civil construction across five sectors: Transport (rail and road), Energy (transmission, renewables, and battery storage), Defence, Water, and Industrial. Civil construction is our craft; these sectors are where we invest in relationships, reputation, and recurring capability.
Our self-delivery model — a directly employed workforce, owned plant and equipment, and integrated project management — gives us the flexibility, control, and accountability to deliver technical, multi-disciplined projects efficiently. It exists to make our projects better, not as a commercial hire business.
New South Wales is our home market and will remain our core. We are also building a deliberate presence in Queensland and South Australia — establishing the relationships and delivery track record to expand our footprint as Australia’s infrastructure pipeline grows.
We are committed to building a workforce and a business that reflects the communities we serve. That means actively growing the participation of women in our workforce and in the broader industry. It means building genuine relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples — grounded in respect, and focused on creating real opportunities. And it means taking measurable responsibility for our environmental footprint — reducing our operational emissions year on year, transparently and accountably, on the path to Net Zero.

Our strategy draws on more than three decades of delivering critical infrastructure and a clear-eyed view of where the market is heading. By the end of this decade, we intend to be recognised as the benchmark for how civil infrastructure is delivered in Australia — measured in our safety record, the strength of our client relationships, the quality of our delivery, the reach of our footprint, and the calibre of the team and culture we have built.
We build infrastructure that matters.
