Laing O’Rourke on behalf of Transport for NSW awarded Brefni a substantial part of the enabling works at Artarmon associated with the construction of the Sydney Metro from Chatswood to Sydenham. The final completed works allowed for new tracks to be laid and existing ones relocated. It also involved the construction of a 1.5 megalitres On Site Detention Tank (OSD) to retain flood waters from the newly constructed Metro Tunnels.
The works involved;
- Design and construction of temporary OSD tank
- Piling & Shotcrete walls to retain live running tracks
- Property adjustments and installation of 1Km of high security fencing
- Fire main installation within existing tunnels
- Service relocation & protection on the surrounding streets
- Multiple critical 48 hr possession works to complete works that were not accessible during normal train running periods
- Demolition of a major existing over bridge at Nelson St
- Removal of asbestos contaminated material
- Excavation of 2500m3 alongside tracks for OSD tank
- Construction of 1.5 megalitres insitu OSD tank & associated overflow structures and drainage lines
- Hard and soft landscaping
- Testing commissioning and handover
