Client: Wollongong City Council
Duration: 6 months
Location: Russell Vale, NSW
Brefni undertook the reconstruction of a retaining wall in Russell Vale on the Princes Highway from Hicks Street to Terania Street.
The existing retaining wall had reached the end of its design life and needed to be replaced. The orignal scope of works included a design that involved construction of footings in front of existing wall, installation of precast panels, and installation of ground anchors.
Upon award of the contract Brefni approached council with an alternative design that addressed the risks of nearby overhead powerlines and site access issues. Brefni undertook to deliver to project on a design and construct basis by providing an innovative alternative solution.
This involved:
Engaging design consultants and geotechnical engineers
Collaboration with Wollongong Council and stakeholders
Engaging specialist contractors to provide an in-situ solution
Installing ground anchors
Roadway and footpath realignment
This is a clear example of the smarter and sharper ethos that is embedded in the Brefni DNA, whereby we are always looking for an opportunity to deliver a better outcome for our clients.
